Solid waste management system is important mechanism in achieving environment-related development goals, says Hala El-Said

A delegation from Egypt's Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, and Environment, has inspected solid waste management system projects in Cairo Governorate.
The inspection tour reviewed the implemented projects, to ensure that they are providing services in a way that improves the system's efficiency.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said said that the solid waste management system is one of the most important mechanisms for achieving development goals related to the environment. This relates to the goals that form part of the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) or Egypt's Vision 2030.
El-Said said that her ministry is lending its support to the new system, which achieves more sustainability for environmental resources. It is also looking to work with partner ministries to implement it according to the highest quality that is reflected in the quality of life of the citizen.
The minister added that the new system provides sources of clean energy through recycling technology that aim to generate energy. It also creates organic fertilisers that serve the agricultural sector and improve the environmental condition of the soil, whilst providing new job opportunities for a large number of young people.
Regarding the results of the field inspection of intermediate stations in Cairo Governorate, Dr Heba Mugheib, head of the regional planning sector at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, said that there is a fixed intermediate station in the Nasser facility.
The Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority received the site and equipment from the cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Planning and Local Development, and Environment, as well as the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) in December 2020.
The delegation was headed by Mena Samir, Assistant Minister of Environment for Solid Waste Management Affairs, and Dr Heba Mugheeb, Head of the Regional Planning Sector at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
