Egypt Post signs coop memo with UPU to implement Ecom@Africa initiative
Published in Daily News Egypt on 19 - 01 - 2020

Bishar Abdirahman Hussein was first elected Director General Essam Al-Sagheer, chairperson of Egypt Post, signed a cooperation agreement with Bishar Hussein, Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to implement the [email protected] initiative, which aims to promote and develop e-commerce between African postal bodies.
Al-Sagheer said that the agreement provided an African platform for electronic commerce for the benefit of African countries that Egypt would work with, in cooperation with the African countries.
This agreement aims to overcome barriers to electronic commerce in Africa and turn Egypt into a portal for electronic commerce for the African continent, in addition to benefiting from Egypt's geographical location. Egypt is better able to provide logistical services for other African nations by collecting and forwarding incoming parcels to all African countries through the logistical collection centre in Cairo.
During the forum's activities, Al-Sagheer held an extended meeting with the postal heads of twelve African countries with the aim of promoting an electronic mail platform for Egypt Post. The meeting also coordinated and prepared a workshop to be held on 26 and 27 January in Cairo to provide technical support to African countries in the field of electronic commerce in order to facilitate intra-Africa trade.
Al-Sagheer also signed a protocol with Dan Kagwe, Postmaster General and CEO Of the Postal Corporation of Kenya, in the field of electronic commerce in order to provide opportunities for Kenyan postal customers to shop from the US, UK, and China through the Logistics Collection Centre in Cairo.
According to this agreement, the logistic centre of Egypt Post at Cairo International Airport will be used in electronic commerce so that Kenya Post customers can easily shop online from the US, the UK, and China, where parcels from these three countries will be collected and shipped to the logistical collection centre in Cairo and then to Kenya, which reduces shipping costs and improves services.
Al-Sagheer said that this protocol aimed to consolidate cooperation and strengthen relations between the Egypt Post and the Kenyan post and opens new horizons for cooperation between Egypt and Kenya to take advantage of the capabilities of post in the two countries and provide high-quality electronic commerce services at competitive prices to obtain customer confidence and a fair share of the e-commerce market.
