DHL Express, the logistics service company, has signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Egyptian National Post Authority to cooperate in facilitating e-commerce services in Africa.
The agreement aims to provide new and innovative services to stimulate rapid shipping traffic to and from the African continent, focusing on Egypt's position as a major hub for development.
The agreement was signed between Essam Al-Saghir, head of the National Authority of the Egyptian Post and Ahmed El-Fangary, the general manager of DHL Express in Egypt.
This came on the sidelines of the Africa Postal Forum, in the presence of Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat.
The agreement comes within the coordination of the e-commerce strategy for Egypt Post to serve as the company's regional centre for electronic commerce for Africa as well as supporting small and medium-sized businesses in Egypt.
The two parties are to cooperate in the field of logistics and supply chain integration for shipping and express transportation of e-commerce packages to and from Africa.
The agreement provides shipping and re-export services at the post office for assembly in Cairo International Port.
DHL will support Egypt Post to develop the operations in electronic commerce and use the post centre in Egypt as a distribution centre for Africa, while Egypt Post will secure the necessary infrastructure for larger distribution in order to comply with international requirements and standards.
This agreement is expected to allow African countries to facilitate e-commerce operations across the continent. The cooperation agreement also provides the optimal use of 4000 branches throughout the republic, as centres for receiving incoming shipments and a form of facilitation for the company's customers.w
CEO of DHL in the Middle East and North Africa Nour Suliman, said that this agreement enhances the DHL network in the Egyptian market, adding that this agreement is the cornerstone for facilitating electronic commerce in the African continent. It also placed Egypt as a prominent centre in the region on the map of the logistics sector.
