EETC poses 3 tenders for construction of transformer stations in New Valley
EGP 7.5bn to complete plan to strengthen, expand high, ultra-high voltage networks
Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 06 - 2019

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) is preparing three tenders to establish 220kV and 66kV transformer stations in New Valley to supply future agriculture projects in the governorate with their power needs.
Sources at the company told Daily News Egypt that the agricultural projects currently conducted in the governorate, including the Extension of Sharq El-Owainat 50,000 feddan project, require expansion of electricity supply to the majority of the artesian wells scheduled to be electrified, and to meet investors' requirements.
The sources pointed out that the total capacity in Sharq El-Owainat is 130MW, which is currently sufficient for the operation of wells, sprinklers, and other equipment for agriculture, but due to future expansions and needs, additional transformer stations should be inaugurated.
Furthermore, the sources highlighted that about EGP 7.5bn were allocated to complete transformer stations, lines, and cables of high and ultra-high voltages, in addition to replacing and renewing these lines. This plan is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
Moreover, the sources stressed that the electric current was connected to all the greenhouses that were equipped across the selected areas. Additionally, giant electricity lines are being extended for the second phase of the Sharq El-Owainat area and the 1.5m feddan project after the ministry contributed to determining the groundwater reservoir and chose the best areas to implement the project.
Additionally, the national network of transformer stations is being developed with investments of more than EGP 80bn, in addition to other investments approved by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and its subsidiaries during the next fiscal year of more than EGP 50bn to complete the implementation of a number of megaprojects, the sources said.
Over and above, the sources added that the construction of a modern internal integrated electricity network in the Administrative Capital is underway, and that it would be managed according to the latest technology systems. The human element interference in this system will be very limited.
These steps are part of the ministry of electricity's efforts to consolidate and expand electrical networks in order to be able to absorb the added capacities.
The ministry of electricity has begun the gradual transformation of the current network from a modular to a smart grid, characterised by the use of modern technologies and information systems, dealing with all sources of electricity generation and significantly contributing toward improving energy efficiency, as well as ensuring electric feeding and the reduction of emissions.
