Egyptian security forces have arrested a truck driver in Giza on charges related to a road accident that killed 11 and injured 10 in the Mounib neighbourhood, state run Al-Ahram newspaper said. The accident took place on Friday in Mounib when a truck transporting construction stones crashed into two microbuses. The three vehicles fell off the Ring Road Bridge and onto the Mounib bus station below. Traffic on the Ring Road has returned to normal levels after the Roads Authority removed the traces of accident. Traffic was severely delayed for almost 12 hours. Those injured in the crash were sent to Om Al-Masryeen, the nearest hospital, for medical treatment. The prosecution reported that a car swerved on the road in front of the truck driver, causing him to veer into the microbuses. Policemen are still looking for the car's owner. There are 12,000 traffic fatalities every year in Egypt, according to the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Global Status Report on Road Safety. There are 42 traffic-related deaths for every 100,000 members of Egypt's population. The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced that at least 6,000 persons were killed in road accidents in 2014, while 24,000 were injured.
