Al-Adly's lawyer to run for parliament in upcoming elections
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 01 - 2015

Mohamed El-Gendy, the lawyer of former interior minister Habib Al-Adly, is running for parliament in the upcoming elections.
El-Gendy announced he would run for parliament in Sharabeya and Zawya Hamra district as an individual, according to his post on his Facebook page.
Gendy is representing former president Hosni Mubarak's longs-serving interior minister in a number of trials as Al-Adly faces charges of profiteering, while he was acquitted, in retrials, from charges of killing protesters and money laundering.
Al-Adly was convicted in May 2011 for money laundering and was sentenced to 11 years in prison before the sentence was cancelled upon appeal before Cairo Court of Cassation in March 2013. He was acquitted in a retrial in June 2014.
He was also convicted for killing protesters in the famous "trial of the century" and received a life sentence in prison in May 2012 before being acquitted in a retrial along with Mubarak in November 2014.
State-media reported that Ahmed Ezz, who was secretary general of Mubarak's National Democratic Party (NDP), is planning to compete in the coming elections with other former National Democratic Party (NDP) members. They will run for individual seats rather than under a party label.
An alliance formed by a Mubarak-era former prime minister and current presidency advisor Kamal El-Ganzoury will participate in the elections poised to take place in March. The alliance already attracts political factions to join it with speculations that its list will feature a number of ex-military top officers and high-ranked figures from the Mubarak era.
