The Attorney General of Suez decided on Saturday to keep the three men suspected of killing Ahmed Hussein Eid in custody for seven more days. The men accused of killing him, Walid Abdullah, Antar Khalifa and magdy Abo El Einein, are said to have confessed to their crime, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior on Thursday. Eid, a 20 year-old engineering student, was stabbed in Suez during an altercation with three men while he was taking his fiancée home on 25 June. He was taken to the University Hospital of Suez University in Ismailiya, where as a student of that university he had the right to be admitted free of charge. Despite treatment he died of his wounds there on 1 July. Following his death, there were claims that the man's death was at the hands of Islamists. While a group on Facebook called the “Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice" claimed responsibility for the killing, the Gama'a Islamiya and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) both denied that the killing was caused by Islamists. The FJP speculated that these claims were made to destroy the image and reputation of Islamists and to make President Morsey's job more difficult. The FJP claimed that rogue members of the security apparatus were behind these accusations. A statement released on Thursday by the police seem to indicate otherwise. They state that Eid was “advised" by the three men that he was in an inappropriate position with his fiancée which is what led to the fight that ended with his injury. Members of the Muslim Brotherhood attended Eid's funeral in which the body was carried in a march from a mosque in Al-Arbaeen to Port Tawfeeq.
