Egypt's unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 per cent in the second quarter (April–June) of calendar year 2025, down 0.2 percentage points from the previous quarter, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced. The labour force grew to 33.614 million workers in Q2 2025, up 0.5 per cent from the previous quarter. This comprised 14.853 million in urban areas and 18.761 million in rural areas, with a total of 26.508 million males and 7.106 million females. CAPMAS attributed the rise in the labour force to an increase of 223,000 employed persons alongside a decrease of 57,000 unemployed individuals, bringing the net growth to 167,000 workers, the report added. The total number of unemployed persons stood at 2.054 million in Q2, compared with 2.111 million in the previous quarter. The unemployment rate among males reached 3.5 per cent, while the rate among females remained significantly higher at 15.8 per cent. By age group, the unemployment rate was 10.2 per cent for individuals aged 15–19 years, 28.9 per cent for those aged 20–24, and 20.7 per cent for the 25–29 segment. About 40.2 per cent of total unemployed persons were between 30 and 64 years old. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
