Karim lifts Ismaili past brave Olympic
Published in Daily News Egypt on 31 - 08 - 2008

CAIRO: Iraqi striker Mostafa Karim scored twice as Ismaili claimed a 3-2 away victory over Olympic to climb to the Egyptian League summit on Friday.
Karim, who also scored in Ismaili s 3-1 victory over Al-Gaish last Sunday, opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute after combining with Abdullah Saied.
Striker Mahmoud Al-Attar, nicknamed Jackson, drew Olympic level in the 20th minute.
Mohamed Fadl restored Ismaili s advantage shortly after the restart before Karim struck his second of the night to extend the gap.
Jackson was on target again in stoppage time after making the most of a dreadful Mohamed Sobhi error. However, Ismaili held on to secure all three points.
Ismaili, who won three matches and drew once since beginning their league campaign, are temporarily in charge of the table with 10 points.
Surprise package Petrojet, who are second on nine points, could regain their position on the top if they beat holders Ahly in a postponed match next month.
In-form striker Karim, who scored four goals in as many matches, needed seven minutes to break the deadlock.
Talented playmaker Saied exchanged passes with Karim, who raced towards Olympic s penalty area to receive the return cross with a delicate header that went into the top corner.
Jackson equalized 13 minutes later when Ismaili s below-par keeper Sobhi failed to deal with his curling low shot from the edge of the area.
But Fadl, who was introduced as a second-half substitute to support Karim upfront, restored the Dervishes lead in the 47th minute after a fine individual effort.
He shot a long ball inside the area, shrugged off a tame challenge from Olympic keeper Caesar Ekow before firing a low shot home from six yards out.
Karim added the third seven minutes later after his free-kick sailed over the wall and into the goal.Jackson notched a consolation for the Alexandria-based Olympic late in the match.
A harmless cross slipped out of Sobhi s hands and Jackson scored from a tight angle.
