Hotel worker assaults tourist; girl chooses death over life with parents
CAIRO: The Eid Al-Fitr holidays were unfortunately riddled by violent crime and attempted rape and murder.
In its Oct. 25 edition, Al-Messa newspaper reported that a trial would soon be underway to determine the fate of a hotel worker who attempted to rape a tourist at one of the popular hotels. During his confession, the man said he was sexually aroused every time he saw his victim in her swimsuit. He broke into her room and attempted to assault her but she managed to alert security, who promptly detained him.
Meanwhile, also on Oct. 25, Al-Gomhuriah highlighted the tragic death of a five-year-old boy when his father, an engineer, accidentally gave him the wrong medication for abdominal colic. The child was given heart medication instead, which raised his blood pressure and led to his eventual death. The mother, a businesswoman, couldn't help but blame her husband for her son's death. She asked for a divorce because she couldn't stand living with the father anymore. Family court has ruled in favor of the wife.
An 11-year-old girl from Minya governorate escaped from her parents' house and came to Cairo. The police found her in Ramses Square and detained her. The father was informed that his daughter was in Azbakeya, Cairo. He came to take her home, but once the girl saw him she threw herself out of a second floor window .The poor child preferred death to going back to her parents who obviously didn't treat her well.
In Al-Madbah district, Kamel almost lost his life when his colleague stabbed him after a disagreement they had over money. The victim is hospitalized in Al-Moneira hospital with a deep stab wound in his left thigh.
In Mansha't Nasser, a man met his death when he crashed into the back of an anonymous car on his motorcycle. He died immediately.
In Ain Shams, a 65-year-old woman succumbed to a diabetic coma and fainted in the street. She had a brain hemorrhage and died before reaching the hospital. Her husband affirmed that she was diabetic.
In Al-Sahel, a 33-year-old man hung himself due to a financial crisis he had. He couldn't afford to celebrate the feast as he had neither money nor a job.
In Al-Basateen, a kitchen butane merchant committed suicide after less than a month of marriage - he hung himself with his wife's scarf. The wife stated that her husband was psychologically disturbed and he suffered from severe depression.
In Giza, one person was killed and four were injured in separate traffic accidents.
Three fires were successfully extinguished in Dokki, Agouza and Imbaba.
The Eid holidays are known for kahk, but too many can be harmful. Opposition newspaper Al-Wafd reported that a family of six suffered food poisoning due to consumption of huge amounts of kahk. They were hospitalized with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. Doctors said that the poisoning was due to over indulgence in cookies.
In Sohag governorate, a 26-year-old housewife poisoned herself after losing hope that her marital life would improve. Her irresponsible husband had turned her life into hell during her 5 year marriage, Al-Ahram Al-Masaey reported.
In Basateen district, a taxi driver hit a Mexican diplomat following a disagreement over taxi fees.
