Murders top crime pages throughout the week
CAIRO: Crime pages in local newspapers this week read like a thriller. While other crimes took place, murders overshadowed most other news.
A carpenter killed a lawyer in Alexandria after an argument over furniture. The victim's brother asked the carpenter to make living room furniture for him and gave him the money for it. The carpenter did not make the furniture and the argument between the carpenter and the victim led to stabs wounds that resulted in his death.
In Al-Mahalla Al-Kobra, one 25-year-old man killed another man; the victim blamed the murderer for misbehaving with his mother-in-law, before being killed.
In Cairo, two brothers killed their roommate because he stopped them from abusing his wife. The four lived together in the same flat and the brothers physically harassed the other man's wife. When he confronted them over the abuse, they killed him.
Two other brothers killed a 22-year-old man for crossing his legs in front of them. The two brothers are greengrocers in Shubra Al-Khayma. They saw the man crossing his legs in front of them at a street side cafe. They asked him to stand up but he refused, and then the two men proceeded to kill him.
Another murder took place in Al-Mahalla. Five people killed a man in the street because the victim had had a fight with one of them earlier.
In a tragic accident, a bride, her parents and her sister died when their car sank in a canal in Atfeeh. The only survivor was her brother a 15-year-old boy.
During the first day of the academic year, a 13-year-old preparatory school student stabbed his colleague. The boy explained that they were only joking with one another.
Another bizarre accident occurred in Qena. A man set his house on fire in objection to his mother traveling to Hurghada to visit her relatives.
Moving to one of the biggest campaigns on drugs, 82 cannabis feddans were destroyed in Sinai. Ten tons of marijuana were also destroyed and 50 people were arrested.
The strangest incident of the week took place at Cairo Airport. An Arab passenger was allowed to leave Cairo but prevented from taking the goat's head and three horns that were in his bag. The size of his bag raised inspector's suspicions.
