Michel extends Zamalek stay
Published in Daily News Egypt on 17 - 04 - 2007

CAIRO: French boss Henri Michel has penned a two-year contract extension with Zamalek, the Cairo giants announced on Sunday.
The new deal will keep the former Ivory Coast coach at the club until 2009 as his previous contract was due to expire at the end of the season.
Zamalek are set to hold a press conference on Saturday to reveal all the details regarding the new deal.
Michel will receive $60,000 as a monthly salary, an Egyptian record for a manager s earnings, according to a Zamalek official who spoke to on condition of anonymity.
The 59-year-old coach listed five names for Zamalek to sign as a condition for extending his stay with the men in white.
The board of directors confirmed with him that Zamalek has successfully concluded negotiations with Egypt and Anderlecht midfielder Ahmed Hassan, Sfaxien s Haitham Mrabet and Rizespor defender Beshir Al-Tabei.
Michel was appointed in December on a six-month contract succeeding Portuguese boss Manuel Cajuda.
Under his management, Zamalek have won seven games and drew just two in the Egyptian League. Michel also led the club to the Arab Champions League semi-finals.
But the only disappointment in Michel s short spell came when Zamalek were knocked out of the CAF Champions League round of 32 at the hands of Sudan s Hilal.
