Admin court postpones government appeal in Nour's case again
Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 07 - 2007

CAIRO: After delaying the government appeal against a case filed by Ayman Nour's supporters by one day, the administrative court agreed Monday to further postpone the hearing until Sept. 2, as requested by his defense team.
Amir Salem, Nour's lawyer, told The Daily Star Egypt that the government rushed in presenting the appeal because the court had not yet made a final decision on the case.
"They thought the court would approve the appeal anyway, but thankfully, the administrative court was convinced that pushing the appeal through is not appropriate for a case that has not been finally decided upon, and so agreed to delay the session until September, said Salem.
The final hearing to decide Nour's early release from his five-year prison term due to his critical health conditoin is scheduled for this morning. Salem added that the danger in not being able to defend Nour's release case was finally over.
"We were afraid that the government appeal would hinder us from defending his release tomorrow, but by delaying the session until September, the other case of releasing Nour will still be overseen today [Tuesday], said Salem.
Gamila Ismail, Nour's wife, told The Daily Star Egypt, that "putting off the issue will give us a chance to examine the appeal presented by the highest judicial body representing the state. It is even more important for us to prepare for today's session.
She said she has no expectations for the delayed session, but hopes that the court will take a final decision concerning the health release of Nour, who is an insulin-dependent diabetic.
"We submitted all the documents required and supposedly there will be no further delays. We are looking forward to hearing a court decision today; we are expecting a decision because every minute makes a difference in Nour's life, said Ismail.
