KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian women are stunned and shocked after news broke this week that a 17-year-old was raped a second time after telling her godbrother of a previous rape that had happened to her. “I can't even describe my anger and I am glad that he was punished. It is obvious the police are not doing enough in this country to protect women and things are getting very bad,” mother of two teenagers Malika Razak told Bikyanews.com after hearing the news reports on the situation. According to China Press, the 17-year-old girl had been convinced by the man, 28, to stay overnight at his house in Bukit Puchong to relate her ordeal. The girl told her family members what then took place and lodged a police report against the man. Her family members then took matters into their own hands by beating up the suspect. Five family members reportedly were involved in the attack that left the suspect in a coma with facial injuries and broken ribs. Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been remanded for 7 days. It highlights the continued rise in sexual violence in the country, which activists and women's campaigners tell Bikyanews.com is not being handled by police, leading to such vigilante justice. BN
