KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia police have reported that they have arrested a man after charges against him were filed alleging that he raped his 18-year-old daughter, who suffers from mental illness. According to Ipoh OCPD Azisman Alias the report was filed at the Simpang Pulai police station by the victim's older sibling last Thursday. She has been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for examination. Azisman said the man was picked up at his house on Friday afternoon and was brought before the court on the same day. The suspect is to remain in custody until October 18. The case has highlighted what many women's activists and social workers across the country tell Bikyamasr.com is a rise in sexual violence of all kinds in the country. Last week, a woman was reported by police to have been gang-raped by 10 men in a shocking violent act. Police said they believe the men to be foreigners, but did not give any more details on the suspects beyond reporting they are most likely Myanmar nationals. The woman was abducted from a bus station in Puchong Perdana on Saturday afternoon, police said, adding that the “rapists recorded their crime" before letting the woman go later in the evening. Although the woman was threatened with being killed, she filed a police report at the Puchong police station that same evening. Police said that based on the woman's testimony, she was forced into a vehicle after at least one armed man pulled up to her as she was waiting for the bus and pushed her into the backseat. “The helpless victim was taken to a nearby flat, where the other suspects were waiting. “Two men tied her hands and feet and despite her screams for help, the suspects took turns raping her," police said in an official statement to local media. According to the police, at least three of the criminals have been arrested and they are currently searching for the other 7. The incident has highlighted the growing fears facing women on the streets in Malaysia. Last summer, car parks became a hotspot for sexual violence and numerous women told Bikyamasr.com that they feared for their safety in public places.
