CAIRO: Egypt's embattled striker Mohamed Zidan has joined the United Arab Emirates club Baniyas after ending his second attempt at a stint in Germany's Bundesliga with Mainz 05. The German club told BBC Sport the player's contract had expired in the summer and he rejected a new one-year-deal with an option for a further year. Zidan, who has 44 international appearances for Egypt and has netted 13 international goals, is believed to have inked a two-year contract with Baniyas. The Abu Dhabi-based club took ninth position in the UAE Pro-League last season. Zidan first joined Mainz 05 in 2005 and stayed for two years, but his second spell with the club lasted only 6 months after he signed from Borussia Dortmund at the end of January this year. On his return to the club he set a new Bundesliga record when he became the first player to score in each of his first 6 games for a new club. However, he was fined for swearing at rival fans during Mainz's 4-0 derby win over Kaiserslautern on February 25, marking the beginning of his troubles with the club.
