Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel is hopeful that in-form forward Mohamed Zidan will sign a permanent contract with the Bundesliga club. The Egypt striker is on an extendable loan deal from Borussia Dortmund as his contract with the German champions expires in the summer, with Mainz looking favorites to retain him. "It is clear we want him to stay," coach Tuchel told BBC Sport. "As far as I know, we have the possibility to extend the contract for another two years and we alone have that option." "If it was only my decision as coach, it is crystal clear we would continue the contract - not only because of the goals he has scored but also because of the way he has improved the whole level of the whole team." Zidan, Mainz's all-time leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga, bagged six goals in as many games since returning to Coface Arena in January Tuchel's men prepare to face Augsburg on Saturday and the young manager is hoping for another good display from Zidan. "I hope the run continues and if it does, there is a high possibility we will get some points there - it's a difficult game," added the 38-year-old.
