Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he is keen to take up the option of signing permanently Egypt striker Mohamed Zidan after a scintillating start of his third spell at the club. “It is clear we want him (Zidan) to stay," Tuchel was quoted as saying on BBC Sport on Friday. "As far as I know, we have the possibility to extend the contract for another two years and we alone have that option," "If it was only my decision as coach, it is crystal clear we would continue the contract - not only because of the goals he has scored but also because of the way he has improved the whole level of the whole team," he added. The 30-year-old Egypt striker has scored in all six matches he has played for Mainz since he joined the German side last January on loan coming from Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund. Zidan became the most efficient signing in the Bundesliga breaking the record of Fredi Bobic who scored in each of his first five games with Stuttgart in 1994/1995. Zidan's seventh game with Mainz will be away to Augsburg on Saturday. "I hope the run continues and if it does, there is a high possibility we will get some points there - it's a difficult game," Tuchel said. Mainz are eleventh in the Bundesliga teams table with 30 points, nine of them were grabbed since the arrival of Zidan six matches ago.
