Egypt's Morsi en route to Ethiopia for African Summit
Published in Bikya Masr on 15 - 07 - 2012

CAIRO: Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has left Egypt for Ethiopia to attend the African Union Summit in the country, his office said on Sunday morning.
It will be his second foreign trip in less than one week, after last week's visit to Saudi Arabia.
According to state-run al-Ahram newspaper, a delegation from the president's office was dispatched last weekend to Ethiopia to prepare for the new president's visit.
It will be his second foreign trip since taking the helm in Egypt. Morsi was in Saudi Arabia this week in an effort to shore up relations with the ultra-conservative Gulf country.
The newspaper cited airport sources as saying the delegation was headed by Hisham el-Eisawy and was to meet with a number of Ethiopian and African Union officials ahead of the summit.
Likely to be discussed is the ongoing water issues pertaining to the Nile River, of which Egypt continues to remain obstinate in renegotiating a treaty with Nile Basin countries, including Ethiopia over water usage.
Morsi's visit will be the first for an Egyptian president to Ethiopia since the assassination attempt against ousted and jailed President Hosni Mubarak in 1995.
