New Delhi: Delhi is the capital of India is old hat. The brutal gang-rape of a middle aged woman in a hospital toilet, a public garden and her subsequent murder back at the same hospital is only reinforcing the image of Delhi, as the sadist capital of sex crimes. Police say they have arrested three persons in connection with the crime, while one is on the run, according to additional commissioner of police Devesh Srivastava. According to the police the victim had gone to visit a relative at the LNJP hospital in New Delhi, when the four accused, which included a butcher, a vegetable vendor, accosted her and raped her in the hospital's toilet. The quartet then forcibly took her to a nearby public garden and raped her again, before trying to gang-rape her once more in the hospital premises. “When she resisted they murdered her by stabbing her twice and then slitting her throat,” police said. Police have arrested one Salman, Arif, Mohamed Yahiya in connection with the crime, while they are on the lookout for the fourth assailant Asif, who has fled. According to statistics released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Delhi accounts for one rape for every four rapes in the country. In 2010 alone, 414 rape cases were registered in the national capital, the highest number in any other Indian urban hubs. The Delhi government earlier this week had announced a compensation package of $ 6000 for victims of rape in the capital.
