A man who tried to save his horse from drowning, drowned himself in his attempts to rescue the animal, on Sunday in Cairo. Eid Abdel Ra'ouf Abdel Aziz, 26, who owns a horse carriage for a living, took his horse to bathe in the Ismaileya canal, in the Cairo suburb of Shubra al-Kheima, when the horse began drifting as a result of the strong current, so the man jumped in to save the animal. Police said people on the bank tried to rescue him, but failed after several attempts. He drowned and the horse survived. His body was spotted by passersby and the police were notified, who in turn informed the river rescue unit, who seized the body, and moved it to a local coroner's office.
