CAIRO: Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said on Friday that it was holding the country's security forces and the interior ministry responsible for two attacks on Islamist politicians in a 24-hour period, the group said in a statement. The Islamic group's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) member of Parliament Hassan al-Brens was injured in a crash on Friday after a truck pulled along side his vehicle and caused him to crash. Before that, on Thursday, gunmen attacked moderate Islamist presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, hitting him on the head and causing a concussion. “We hold the Interior Ministry and all its institutions entirely responsible for these incidents,” the Brotherhood said in a statement, saying Brens and a another lawmaker recently received death threats. “We demand [state security] perform the role they are supposed to perform and realise the people will not forgive them for their neglect and the dereliction of the rights of their country and its citizens,” read a statement on the website of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) which currently holds the most seats in Egypt's parliament. The statement added that recent acts of violence in Egypt, including a soccer stadium disaster in Port Said this month in which at least 75 people died, were the result of a deliberate break-down of security. On February 1, following a match between Egyptian giants al-Ahly and local club al-Masry, security forces stood by and allowed fans to attack.
