Moroccan schools honor World No Tobacco Day Moroccan officials on Monday (May 31st) marked World No Tobacco Day by honouring schools, hospitals and businesses for participating in a national anti-smoking campaign. Princess Lalla Salma, who heads the Lalla Salma Campaign to Combat Cancer (ALSC), presided over the awards ceremony in Skhirat. The ALSC launched the anti-smoking campaign jointly with the Health Department in March 2007. Smoking in schools has dropped by 1.5% in Fes, Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat thanks to efforts being made under the national anti-smoking campaign, Health Minister Yasmina Baddou said at the May 31st event. Algeria: Chaouchi's suspension lifted FIFA has officially lifted the suspension of the Algeria goalkeeper, Chaouchi Fawzi, who can therefore participate in the first game of the 2010 World Cup of the Fennecs Sunday against Slovenia, announced Wednesday the Algerian Football Federation on its website. Chaouchi was sentenced to three-match suspension after being expelled during the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations lost Jan. 28 against Egypt. For the Confederation of African Football (CAF), these three games have been purged, the first in the match for 3rd place in C-2010 and the following in local competitions. Japanese cable manufacturer YAZAKI is building its 4th plant in Tunisia Yazaki, the world's largest producer of wiring harnesses and global leader in automotive cables is currently constructing its fourth plant in Om Larayes in the governorate of Gafsa. The plant will produce automotive cables for Mercedes trucks. The news was recently announced in the periodical bulletin released by FIPA, Tunisia's Foreign Investment Promotion Agency. Moreover, building work on the Metlaoui factory, in which cables for Opel and Ford cars will be manufactured and assembled, will kick-start on June 2010. Greece's Papandreou in Libya after help offer Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou discussed the strengthening of ties with Libya on Wednesday, after Tripoli offered to help his country emerge from a serious economic crisis, media reports said. Papandreou began an official visit by meeting Libyan counterpart Baghdadi Mahmoudi, before discussing ways of “strengthening cooperation between the two countries” with Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi, the JANA news agency reported. Mahmoudi said during a visit to Athens in May that Libya stood ready to help Greece emerge from its current economic woes. Darfur rebels release 35 prisoners The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) today released 35 members of the Sudanese army, said the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Red Cross facilitated the handover of prisoners of war to the Sudanese government from Nyala in South Darfur. “Both JEM and the Sudanese authorities requested that the ICRC help with the transfer in our capacity as a neutral intermediary between the warring parties,” said Jordi Raich Curco, head of the ICRC's delegation in Sudan.
