(Others) – Sharqiya's security directorate referred 18 people on Sunday to the local prosecutor-general for allegedly instigating riots near President Mohamed Morsi's private residence in his hometown of Zagazig in the eastern Nile Delta. A total of 20 people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly taking part in the disturbances. The remaining two are still in detention pending further investigation in regard to their alleged roles in recent arson attacks against the regional offices of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party. On Saturday, some 30 protesters gathered outside Sharqiya's security directorate to protest the detention of those charged with responsibility for the injury of several police officers. Friday saw mass protests in several Egyptian governorates against President Morsi's November 22 constitutional decree. Demonstrations, by both supporters and opponents of the president, were reported in Morsi's hometown of Zagazig. Protests escalated on Friday afternoon, when dozens of demonstrators threw rocks at Morsi's private residence. In response, security forces fired at least six teargas canisters to disperse the crowds. Zagazig University Hospital has received several cases of protesters suffering from teargas inhalation. According to the health ministry, six people were injured in Friday's protests near the president's home.
