A suspect from the January bombing of Cairo's central police headquarters has been shot dead after a stand-off with the police, according to a statement from the interior ministry. Mohamed Mansour El-Tokhy, wanted for alleged involvement in the bombing, was hiding in an apartment in the east Cairo district of Ain Shams when police came to arrest him. El-Tokhy initiated the gunfight, the statement said, and was shot and killed when police returned fire. The statement added that El-Tokhy was "one of the most dangerous terrorist elements." El-Tokhy had been accused of participating in the 24 January car bombing of a security directorate in central Cairo that left four dead and 76 others injured. The blast also caused extensive damage to nearby mosques and historical sites, such as the Museum of Islamic Arts. The bombing was claimed by the Sinai-based Islamic militant group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.
