Egypt and Jordan have completed the landing of the high-capacity submarine cable, Coral Bridge, which links the two countries for the first time in over 25 years. Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Sami Al-Samerat, Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, witnessed the landing via videoconference at the Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH) in Jordan, following Telecom Egypt's successful installation in Taba, Egypt, two days earlier. The 15-km long cable provides a high-speed connection passing through the Gulf of Aqaba, enabling the transfer of high-capacity international data to meet rising demand for artificial intelligence applications and data centres. Launched under a January 2024 cooperation agreement between Telecom Egypt and Jordanian provider Nitel, the Coral Bridge cable establishes a strategic communications corridor across the Middle East and Europe. It ensures seamless connectivity across Asia, Africa, and Europe, supports data centre expansion, and provides alternative routes and backup connections for major companies and cloud service providers.
