Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Jordan's Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Samirat have witnessed via video conferencing the landing of the high-capacity Coral Bridge submarine cable in the Egyptian city of Taba. The 15km cable, the first direct submarine link between Egypt and Jordan in over 25 years, crosses the Gulf of Aqaba and provides high-speed digital connectivity supported by a large number of fibre pairs. It is designed to carry high-volume international data traffic to meet rising demand from artificial intelligence applications and data centres. The system enables seamless connections across Asia, Africa and Europe, leveraging Egypt's extensive subsea cable infrastructure and the strategic locations of both countries. Its short length reduces latency and costs while ensuring service continuity through backup routes and alternative connections. The cable is due to land in Jordan's Aqaba Digital City data centre in the coming days, providing additional capacity and resilience for global firms and cloud providers operating in the region.
