Egypt's Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir inspected on Sunday the Technotex Garment Factory in the Second Industrial Zone of 15th of May City, according to a Cabinet statement. The factory, a subsidiary of El-Nile Group, spans 55,000 square metres and produces 9.5 million garments annually with a 35 per cent local component. It exports 100 per cent of its production to 12 international markets, including the United States, Europe, and Turkey, generating EGP 3 billion in annual exports. Technotex currently employs 5,000 workers and plans to expand its workforce to 8,000 and increase output to 14.7 million pieces annually by 2026, raising export revenues to EGP4.7 billion, the statement added. El-Wazir highlighted the ready-made garments sector as a priority for industrial growth, citing its labour-intensive nature, low energy consumption, and global reputation, as stated in the release. The minister added that the government is studying the conversion of the former Helwan Iron and Steel complex into a hub for textiles and garment-related industries, intending to attract foreign investment and strengthen the value chain.
