Egypt's electricity load hit a record high of 39,500 megawatts on Tuesday, exceeding Monday's peak by 600 megawatts and surpassing last year's all-time high of 38,000 megawatts, according to the National Energy Control Centre (NECC). The unified grid successfully absorbed the surge in demand, supported by a phased operational plan implemented over recent months to prepare for summer heatwaves. The measures included efficiency improvements, completion of scheduled maintenance in line with global standards, and continuous monitoring of load trends, which the centre described as unprecedented. The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy stated that it is maintaining heightened readiness across the generation, transmission, and distribution networks to ensure stability and uninterrupted supply nationwide. Minister Mahmoud Esmat supervised the implementation of the plan, directing the deployment of technical support, emergency response, maintenance teams, safety crews, and inspection committees to bolster operations during the heatwave. Minister Esmat added that company heads and electricity system officials remain on the ground to monitor the system, maintain communication with consumers through the integrated complaints platform, and ensure swift responses to reported issues. He emphasised that the unified grid's resilience reflects the collective efforts of all personnel to meet rising demand while maintaining supply quality and continuity.
