Egypt's unified electricity network recorded an unprecedented increase in load and consumption on Saturday, July 26, 2025, reaching a historic peak of 38,800 megawatts—an 800-megawatt jump in a single day. According to a cabinet statement, this is the highest load the national grid has experienced in its history, surpassing the previous record of 38,000 megawatts reported last year and earlier this year, based on data from the National Energy Control Centre. The ministry stated that the national electricity grid successfully withstood the record-breaking demand, driven by soaring temperatures, high humidity, and an unusual surge in consumption for this time of year. In response, the ministry raised its preparedness across the power system, covering production, transmission, and distribution. Emergency response teams, technical support, monitoring, and maintenance crews were deplyed, alongside centralised teams for rapid intervention and support. Safety and occupational health units, along with inspection committees from the ministry and the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, also intensified efforts as part of the current plan to maintain grid security and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
