Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from French President Emmanuel Macron, who reaffirmed the strength of bilateral ties and the shared commitment to build on the momentum of his recent visit to Cairo. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation, particularly in economic, trade and investment sectors. The call also covered Egypt's mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees. Both sides underscored the need to ensure adequate and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip. President Macron expressed France's full support for Egypt's efforts and stressed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, in line with international legitimacy. President Sisi welcomed Macron's recent announcement that France intends to formally recognise the State of Palestine during the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly in New York this September. Sisi said the move aligns with France's continued efforts to implement the two-state solution, describing it as the only viable path to lasting peace and regional stability. Both leaders also reiterated support for the joint French-Saudi initiative to hold a high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian cause, scheduled for later this July in New York.
