Egypt has welcomed the signing of a declaration of principles between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Congo River Alliance – M23 Movement, which was reached in Doha. In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the agreement would mark a constructive step towards achieving lasting and comprehensive peace in eastern DRC. It said the declaration could help improve humanitarian and living conditions in the country and strengthen peace and security across the region. Egypt also commended the roles played by Qatar and the United States in facilitating dialogue between the two sides. The statement reaffirmed Egypt's consistent support for all regional and international efforts aimed at promoting security, stability and development across Africa.
