Egypt on Saturday welcomed the signing of a Declaration of Principles by the governments of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda in Washington on April 25, 2025, aimed at achieving peace, stability, and economic development in eastern Congo. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as an encouraging step towards building trust between the two countries and enhancing the prospects for peace and regional stability in the Great Lakes region and across Africa. Egypt praised the commitment of both parties to resolve their differences through peaceful means, contributing to the easing of tensions and opening prospects for joint cooperation and development to benefit the peoples of both countries and the region. The statement reaffirmed Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at peacefully resolving conflicts across Africa, upholding international law and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, to help consolidate regional and international security and stability. Egypt also stressed its commitment to supporting de-escalation efforts and advancing the settlement process through peaceful dialogue between the two countries. The Foreign Ministry noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had emphasised this commitment during phone calls with Rwandan President Paul Kagame on April 17 and Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi on April 19. Egypt will continue its efforts to support the settlement path and coordinate with regional parties to reach a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement between the two countries, reaffirming Egypt's dedication to promoting security and stability across Africa.
