Egypt's Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy paid on Wednesday a field visit to Dekheila Port in Alexandria to inspect final preparations for the Energos Power floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), set to depart for Ain Sokhna on July 6. According to a ministry statement, the unit will be connected to the national gas grid and undergo safety and operational testing ahead of schedule. The move is part of a broader strategy to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to key sectors amid rising summer demand. The visit comes as Egypt continues to expedite the integration of FSRUs across its ports, with the goal of securing sustainable natural gas supplies. The statement confirmed that preparations and testing at marine berths in SUMED and Sonker (Ain Sokhna) have already been completed ahead of plan. The ministry also reported that final commissioning steps are underway for a second FSRU, Energos Eskimo, which arrived in Egyptian waters on June 7 following the end of a 10-year lease agreement with Jordan. Engineering upgrades to its safety and control systems have prompted additional testing, slightly extending its deployment timeline. Energos Eskimo is expected to depart Ain Sokhna on July 5 for the SUMED berth, where it will be connected to the gas grid and enter service. The ministry affirmed that Egypt's national gas grid remains stable, with current projects supporting increased capacity to meet rising energy needs. Over 1,600 engineers, technicians, and workers from 14 affiliated companies and international certifiers have contributed to the project's accelerated progress. The push to deploy FSRUs is part of Egypt's broader energy security plan, as the country looks to maintain uninterrupted natural gas flows amid regional and seasonal supply pressures.
