Egypt's food safety regulator is stepping up efforts to modernise its oversight systems and attract foreign investment, holding talks with France on deeper cooperation in regulatory frameworks, risk analysis, and training. Tarek El-Houby, head of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), met with representatives of the French Embassy's Economic Mission in Cairo to explore ways to leverage France's technical expertise and improve Egypt's food safety standards, according to a Cabinet statement on Tuesday. "International partnerships are critical to enhancing our food safety infrastructure and expanding the global footprint of Egyptian exports," El-Houby said, highlighting the need to align with global best practices. Pascal Furth, who heads the French mission, commended the NFSA's reform progress and said France is ready to provide technical support and help channel investment into Egypt's food processing industry. Jean-Philippe Dop, the French Embassy's regional agricultural counsellor, pointed to opportunities in joint training, agricultural supply chains, and scientific cooperation. The talks come as Egypt works to raise food quality and tap new export markets amid rising global scrutiny over agricultural and processed food standards.
