Egypt's National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) head Tarek El-Houby on Wednesday reviewed the challenges facing the medicinal and aromatic plants sector, and means to boost their export, according to the authority's statement. During a meeting with medicinal and aromatic plants exporters, that was attended by parliament members, El-Houby discussed several topics, such as managing stocks, sampling rates based on NFSA's risk assessment, and non-compliance with safety standards. The NFSA is working on gradual solutions, developed in consultation with stakeholders to align procedures with regulatory requirements without hindering exports. These measures are being prepared for implementation within a set timeline. Exporters praised the NFSA for passing the EU's technical review of Egypt's control system for microbiological contaminants in medicinal and aromatic plants, conducted from 5 to 26 November 2024, the statement added.
