Egypt's National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) head Tarek El-Houby met with a delegation from the South African Bureau of Standards (SABA) in Pretoria as part of the trade mission organised by the Egyptian Food Export Council (FEC) to South Africa. The meeting focused on enhancing technical cooperation in mandatory food regulations and supporting Egyptian food exports by meeting South African market standards, as per a Cabinet statement. Extensive discussions were held to enhance technical cooperation and exchange expertise in food safety measures. In addition, efforts were coordinated to align with international standards, improving trade exchanges between the two countries. El-Houby emphasised the importance of continuous coordination and exchanging technical information to facilitate the entry of Egyptian food products into South Africa. He stressed that the authority is committed to implementing the latest regulatory systems and international standards to ensure the safety, quality, and reliability of Egyptian food products. The operations director of SBAS expressed interest in expanding joint cooperation and exploring opportunities for exchanging expertise and standardising technical requirements to enhance trade between the two countries.
