The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has signed a $20 million agreement with Türkiye's UR-SA to establish an industrial textiles and plastic packaging plant in Egypt's West Qantara Industrial Zone, the authority said Wednesday. The project, which will span 35,000 square metres, is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs and export 80 per cent of its output to international markets. UR-SA's product line will include agricultural and industrial packaging materials, industrial and agricultural textiles, and large flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs). "The Suez Canal Economic Zone is stepping up efforts to localize manufacturing, deepen supply chains and strengthen Egyptian exports," Walied Gamal El-Din, chairman of SCZONE Authority, said at the signing ceremony. The region's strategic location linking the Red Sea and Mediterranean, combined with incentives and infrastructure, continues to attract global investors, he added. The Qantara West zone is emerging as a hub for textile and garment manufacturing. The UR-SA project raises the total number of contracted projects in the area to 23, with cumulative investments of $643.5 million and more than 33,600 direct jobs, Gamal El-Din added. He said the deal aligns with Egypt's strategy to localise key industries, strengthen supply chain integration, and support export growth to meet surging global demand for goods and packaging solutions.
