Suez Canal Economic Zone secures $38m in investments for food, textile projects
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 15 - 12 - 2024

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) inked on Sunday two major agreements worth $38 million to establish groundbreaking food and textile manufacturing projects in the West Qantara Industrial Area. These ventures, spanning a combined 137,000 square metres, are set to create 1,450 jobs and bolster the region's economic and industrial appeal.
The first project, a collaboration with Turkish food giant Saray Bisküvi ve Gıda San. A.Ş., is the first of its kind in the West Qantara Industrial Zone. With an investment of $8 million, the 45,000-square-metre facility will focus on producing high-quality food products, exporting 90 per cent of its output. It is expected to generate 450 jobs.
The second agreement brings in China's KELIDA HOME TEXTILES (HANGZHOU) LTD. The $30 million project, covering 92,000 square metres, will focus on manufacturing home textiles and fabrics, with plans to export over 90 per cent of its products to European and US markets. The factory is set to create 1,000 direct jobs and further enhance Egypt's position in the global textile market.
A Milestone for SCZone
Speaking at the signing ceremony, SCZone Chairman Walied Gamal El-Din highlighted the strategic significance of the agreements, noting that they are part of a broader development push in West Qantara. With these new projects, SCZone has secured a total of $309 million in investments across eight ventures during the first phase of development in the region. This effort spans 751,000 square metres and is projected to generate approximately 14,200 jobs.
He added that these projects are a testament to SCZone's success in creating a world-class industrial hub. Its strategic location, close to major ports, ensures seamless access to regional and global markets, attracting high-profile investors, Gamal El-Din stated.
Moreover, he also emphasised SCZone's commitment to infrastructure development and investor support, including the provision of land, logistics, and licensing.
SCZone aims to provide a seamless experience for investors while fostering advanced industries that contribute to the national economy, Gamal El-Din added.
Both projects are expected to begin operations by the fourth quarter of 2025, signaling a new era of industrial growth and international collaboration for the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
