Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty expressed pride in marking over ten years since the launch of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, initiated by the presidents of both countries in December 2014. He highlighted the progress in bilateral relations across various fields and voiced Egypt's keenness to work with China to elevate ties to broader horizons. During his meeting on Wednesday in Cairo with China's Special Envoy for the Middle East Zhai Jun, Abdel-Aty praised China's contribution to infrastructure development in Egypt and stressed Cairo's interest in attracting more Chinese investments and companies. He also outlined Egypt's investment opportunities and the government's efforts to support the private sector as part of a comprehensive economic development plan. Abdel-Aty briefed the Chinese envoy on Egypt's mediation efforts, in cooperation with the United States and Qatar, to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. He underscored the urgent need to allow the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip to alleviate the crisis facing the Palestinian people. The minister also praised China's balanced stance on the Palestinian issue and reiterated the importance of ensuring the Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The meeting also addressed several regional issues, including developments in Lebanon, Syria, and Sudan, as well as maritime security in the Red Sea. On the matter of UN Security Council reform, Abdel-Aty reaffirmed Egypt's support for the Ezulwini Consensus as the unified African position and the only path to rectifying the historical injustice against the continent regarding Council membership.
