Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty discussed on Sunday evening with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Weitkoff the joint efforts by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to reach a deal for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, and full humanitarian aid access. During the call, Abdel-Aty stressed the urgent need to halt the ongoing war and Israeli aggression on Gaza and to ensure the unimpeded entry of aid into the Strip to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people. He also underlined the importance of reaching a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that fulfils the aspirations of the region's peoples and embodies the vision of President Donald Trump for comprehensive peace. Weitkoff, for his part, expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's mediation role and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's efforts to secure an agreement that would end the war, release hostages, and facilitate aid delivery. The call also addressed the latest developments in the indirect US-Iran negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme.
