Egypt's Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouly, held a high-level meeting on Wednesday with Spain's Senate President Pedro Rollán to discuss areas of mutual interest, according to a Cabinet statement. Madbouly praised Spain's role within the EU in conveying Egypt's concerns regarding different uissues and expressed hope for Spanish parliamentary support regarding the EU's financial package for Egypt. He highlighted the growing trade relations, which reached approximately €4 billion in 2024, emphasising the potential to double this figure given the economic complementarity between the two nations. The prime minister commended Spain's firm stance on the Palestinian issue and its official recognition of the State of Palestine. He also noted that the recent Arab Summit in Cairo reaffirmed the rejection of forced displacement of Palestinians and underscored the urgency of Gaza's reconstruction. For his part, Rollán affirmed Spain's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt across political, economic, and parliamentary domains. He emphasised that Egypt is a priority partner for Spain and expressed interest in sharing Spain's four-decade-long development experience while also learning from Egypt's reforms.
