Egypt's domestic liquidity (M2) surged to 11.864 trillion Egyptian pounds by the end of January 2025, up from 11.636 trillion pounds in December 2024, according to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). The latest CBE data shows that the money supply (M1) grew to 2.942 trillion pounds in January, compared to 2.803 trillion pounds in the previous month. Additionally, the volume of currency in circulation outside the banking system increased to 1.157 trillion pounds, up from 1.121 trillion pounds in December. Demand deposits in local currency also recorded a notable rise, reaching 1.784 trillion by the end of January, compared to 1.682 trillion pounds in December. Meanwhile, quasi-money, which includes time deposits and savings accounts, rose to 8.922 trillion pounds, from 8.833 trillion pounds at the end of 2024. The steady growth in domestic liquidity reflects continued economic activity and financial sector expansion, reinforcing confidence in Egypt's banking system.
