Meta is cutting prices for VR headsets, including Quest 2 from $499 to $429 and Quest Pro from $1499 to $999, in order to boost sales of the technology, the company announced on Friday. The Quest 2 price cut will be effective in more than 12 countries, starting from the U.S. on Sunday, while the Quest Pro price cut will be effective in the U.S. and Canada on Sunday, and in other countries on March 15. "Our goal has always been to create hardware that's affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of all that VR has to offer," said the company in a blog post. Quest 2 VR set is more popular, while Quest Pro, which was released in October with a high price, was targeted at enterprise customers. Meta lost $13.7 billion in 2022 on its Reality Labs unit, which is responsible for building the company's metaverse technologies, including the VR headsets, as the unit's revenue had a 17 percent decline, and during the company's current layoffs. Facebook rebranded as Meta in late 2021, highlighting the company's new vision to build a future and immersive version of the internet, the metaverse, including its VR technology.
