Egypt kicked off the United Nations Climate Summit COP27 on Sunday after a year of extreme weather disasters that have underscored the urgent need for global action. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry handed over the presidency from the former secretariat of Glasgow Alok Sharma, president of COP26, as he started his speech highlighting the climate incidents that have impacted several areas worldwide. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is scheduled to deliver an opening speech outlining the road map towards a better future for the world's people in the event for the implementation of earlier slogans and commitments on reducing thermal emissions, Presidential spokesman said. The conference aims to implement the outcomes of the 26th session COP26 in Glasgow and take action on a range of critical issues to address the climate emergency such as urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the United Nations said. UN further added the summit also seeks to renew solidarity among countries to implement the landmark Paris Agreement. The summit will bring together leaders, heads of government, elite international figures, experts and specialists to discuss climate changes' issues that affect the lives of all inhabitants of the planet. About 40,000 partisans and delegates from nearly 200 countries gathered in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh for the 13-day conference, with leaders arriving on Monday and Tuesday. The summit will bring together leaders, heads of government, elite international figures, experts and specialists to discuss climate changes' issues that affect the lives of all inhabitants of the planet.
