Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) has invested EGP 55 million in the last three years to upgrade the operating systems of the Egyptian Root Certificate Authority (Root CA) and to develop the human capabilities, according to CEO of the agency Amr Mahfouz on Monday.
Amr Mahfouz, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA)
He pointed that ITIDA has assigned about EGP 75 million as well to establish an exchange site for the Root CA in the New Administrative Capital to fulfil the rising demand for e-signature services. This is in addition to assuring and rising the systems and requests' speedy responses for real-time verification of e-signature validation certificates.
"We are so excited with the current expansion and deployment of the e-signature service in collaboration with the services providers and telecom operators nationwide, which helps in easing access to this important service," Mahfouz stated.
The e-Signature Law, issued in 2004 and upon which the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) was established. It supports Egypt's e-commerce industry by securing the Internet as a legally viable medium for digital transactions and helps in supporting digital transformation in all country's sectors.
It should be noted that the executive regulations of the e-signature law have been amended under the decision of the Minister of communications and information technology No. 361 of 2020. This happens to accelerate Egypt's digital transformation adoption; and the central role of e-signature in developing the efficiency of administrative work. It also helps in improving the government services, adding to Egypt's competitiveness globally.
