Vodafone India has received the ‘Green Telecom Company of the Year 2012' award in recognition of its initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The telecom operator had set up mechanisms to measure and report carbon emissions. This resulted in a 10 per cent reduction in diesel consumption, leading to a reduction of about 8,50,000 tonnes of CO2 in 2011-12, the company said in a statement. The CO2 emissions have further been reduced to 9,900 tonnes, as on date this year. This award signifies Vodafone's green initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions on a per unit of traffic basis by employing hybrid solutions. Vodafone India optimised diesel consumption at all its cell sites, deployed fuel catalysts, tapped solar energy, reduced air-conditioner usage, developed energy efficient features and products with technology partners and ensured proper disposal of waste. “At Vodafone India, we understand the need to engage in sustainable practices and to contribute positively towards the environment.
