Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 05 - 09 - 2020

Egypt, Jordan and Iraq announced the establishment of an electrical interconnection line between the three countries with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts after an Egyptian-Jordanian-Iraqi summit last week.
The projects proposed by the Egyptian side were put forward during a meeting headed by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and attended by seven other ministers, according to a cabinet statement released on Friday.
Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker presented a venture to establish an electrical interconnection line between the three countries with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts.
"It will help exchange electrical capacities and make use of the differences of the peak times in Egypt, Jordan and Iraq," the minister was quoted as saying.
On the other hand, Petroleum Minister Tarek El-Molla presented a proposal to install a pipeline to transfer crude oil from Iraq to Jordan and Egypt to boost cooperation in the field of petroleum capabilities and to meet the needs of various projects in the three countries.
On August 25, 2020, the trilateral summit was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan King Abdullah II, and Iraq's Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
"The summit focused on ways to enhance joint trilateral cooperation in various fields between the three countries, notably those pertinent to energy, electricity interconnection, infrastructure and food. It also tackled consultations and coordination on the latest political and security situations in the region and efforts to combat terrorism," said Egyptian presidency in a statement.
