Mohamed Ragab, the National Democratic Party's new secretary general, said that the party started a "cleansing” campaign against its members involved in cases of corruption.
According to Ragab, the party issued a list that contained 22 names of members proved to be involved in corruption cases, most notably: the NDP's former Secretary for Organizational Affairs Ahmed Ezz, former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly, former Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza, former Minister of Housing Ahmed al-Maghrabi, former Minister of Trade and Industry Rachid Mohamed Rachid, former Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garana , former Minister of Transport Mohamed Mansour, former Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmy, former Minister of Information Anas al-Fiqqi, former Minister of Finance Youssef Boutros-Ghali, former Minister of Housing Mohammad Ibrahim Suleiman, former head of Egyptian State TV Osama al-Sheikh, and many businessmen including Hesham Talaat Mustafa and Mohamed Abul Enein.
Ragab added that the party accepted the resignation of Safwat al-Sherif, Zakaria Azmi, Moufeed Shehab, Gamal Mubarak, and Ali al-Din Helal. He pointed out that the party's chairman office has been vacant since Mubarak's resignation.
Ragab announced that the party is arranging a conference for NDP members, to be held in April, in order to elect a new president for the party. He stressed that dismissing "corrupt members" is a great asset to the party.
