CAIRO: Prosecutor General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud issued travels bans against 43 current and former ministers, press reports said Sunday.
Mahmoud also ordered Saturday that their bank accounts in Egypt and abroad be frozen pending investigations, the reports added.
Sources said that all Egyptian airports received a list of the names of ministers prohibited from leaving the country.
Contacted by Daily News Egypt, the Prosecutor General's office staff refused to offer any information about Mahmoud's decision.
The ministers include former Minister of Interior Al-Habib Al-Adly, former Minister of Information Anas El-Fiqi, former Minister of Tourism Zuhair Garrana and former Minister of Health Hatem El-Gabaly.
“All these ministers and businessmen will be liable to interrogation before being referred to court,” law professor Salah Sadek told Daily News Egypt.
“I call on the Egyptian judiciary to hold public trials in Tahrir Square for all these corrupt officials and businessmen,” Sadek added.
According to Sadek, the Prosecutor General is expected to address the Interpol to submit the officials and the businessmen who managed to flee the country following the Jan. 25 revolution.
Former MP and journalist Moustafa Bakry was among many others filing complaints against a number of current and former officials and members of former President Hosni Mubarak's ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) including Ahmed Ezz, ex-NDP Organizations Committee head and steel mogul.
